Oakton Girls Soccer has not lost since their 1st game of the year on March 14th, so it is no surprise that they had a first round bye prior to facing Chantilly in the Conference Semifinals on Wednesday night. After being shutout in their first match-up on April 14th, Chantilly came out intent on not repeating history and scored an early goal. But, that seemed to anger the Cougars on the field, as they proceeded to fire off 3 goals in the 1st half and take a 3-1 lead to halftime. The two teams played evenly throughout the 2nd half and Oakton advanced to the Finals with a 4-2 victory.

Senior Midfielders, Alana Moore and Anya Heijst each had a goal, as did a Freshman that we will be hearing plenty from over the next few years, Bella DeLew. Senior Goalkeeper, Sam Weaver was her usual stingy self with 16 saves to add to her already impressive year. Coming as no shock to anyone, Senior All-Everything, Tess Sapone had a goal and an assist to lead the way for the Cougars.  Sapone is crushing her senior-season with 17 goals on the year, which places her in the top 10 of goal scorers in NoVA.

Side note: 3-Sport Star- Senior, Alex Marquis played basketball and Volleyball in addition to Soccer for Oakton this year and those teams have a combined ┬árecord of 64-8….. Okay. Are we sure she can’t forego her Freshman year at college for a 2nd senior year??

Next up, Oakton faces Centreville in the Conference Finals on May 20th.
