Woodgrove Girls edge out George Mason

The back-to-back State Champ, Woodgrove Wolverines have been rounding into championship form. After losing 2 of their first 3 games of the season, they had won 6 straight heading into Monday’s game with George Mason. The Wolverines have outscored opponents 103-30 during their win streak and thought that handling George Mason would be no different, but the Mustangs are young, talented, and were ready to put up a fight. The Mustangs came out firing and took a 6-5 lead into halftime, but Woodgrove came to life in the 2nd half and outscored George Mason 7-4 to take the lead and go on to win 12-10.

George Mason got huge contributions from Junior star, Sarah Lubnow with 2 goals & 2 assists and Sophomore, Claire Hiscott with 3 goals. Sophomore, Amy Roche was back at it with 4 goals, which matches her per game average for the season.

Woodgrove is no stranger to winning and neither is Senior, Sarah Pantaleo, who had 2 goals in the game. Junior, Sanaea Gowadia hada season-high 11 saves in the game to help secure the victory. The star of the night is no surprise to anyone paying attention to NoVA Lax– Senior, Nora Bowen had 7 of Woodgrove’s 12 goals against George Mason. Not only is Bowen averaging 6 goals per game, but she is getting better as the season goes on- over her last 5 games, she has bumped her average up to 7 goals per game. Bowen is on a mission for another title run and she is the definition of- you can’t stop her, you can only hope to contain her.

Next up, Woodgrove faces Dominion and George Mason faces Park View on April 28th.
