Park View beats Rock Ridge for a trip to Finals

Park View High

Rock Ridge and Park View played to a tie just 2 weeks ago, so Patriots’ fans were understandably a little nervous at the beginning Monday’s game in the Conference Semifinals. Well, it took all of 3 minutes for those nerves to evaporate and overwhelming confidence to rain down. Park View’s offense, eager to show that they are poised and ready for a long post-season run, came out scorching in the 1st half– scoring 3 goals to take a 3-0 lead to half. The 2nd half was not much different, the Patriots’ defense stifled Rock Ridge until the end and gave the home crowd a 5-0 win.

Sophomore, Jeison Henriquez got things started, scoring the first goal of the game, his first of the season, apparently he was just waiting for the right time. Fellow Sophomore, Hector Hernandez closed out the game with a goal, also his first of the year. The 3 goals that were scored in between all have one thing in common– they came off of the foot of Junior, Obdulio Funez. He scored 2 goals within the last few minutes of the 1st half and Rock Ridge hoped that halftime would cool him off….. Not so much, this man came back out in the 2nd half looking for the hat-trick and got it. Funez came into the game already sitting in 2nd place for assists (17) in NoVA, but he left the game also being 4th in goals scored (18), so yeah, you could say he has been pretty good this year.

Next up, Park View faces Heritage in the Conference 21B Finals.
