What is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the Battlefield Soccer Team? If you answered, All they do is win, win, win no matter what, got money on their mind they can never give it up– then you answered correctly. Well, Westfield wasn’t trying to hear that, especially after they upset TC Williams on Tuesday night with a 4-3 win. The Bulldogs were confident coming into Thursday night’s game and they were going toe-to-toe with the Bobcats through the 1st half, taking a 1-1 tie into halftime. Battlefield must have been annoyed by the tie, because they caught fire like a Hoverboard, scoring in the first 2 minutes of the 2nd half and racking up 3 goals to advance to the Regional Semifinals with a 4-1 victory.
Battlefield is loaded with talent all over the field, led by a tremendous group of Seniors, but don’t sleep on the young guys. Sophomores, Opare Asihene and Ryan Powell each had a goal in the game. If you don’t know Powell’s name yet, you should probably learn it pretty quickly– all he has done this year is score 18 goals, which ties him for 4th place among goal scorers in NoVA. But, Back to the Seniors, three of them helped secure their 10 game winning streak– Brendan Hogan and Bobby Bynum each chipped in goals. The duo of Hogan and Bynum have combined for 19 goals and 12 assists this year. The third Senior, Goalkeeper, Justin Ennis just keeps making saves and is pushing 100 saves on the year.
Next up, Battlefield faces Yorktown in the Regional Semifinals on June 1st.
